Join DC Audubon for a great day of birding at *Point Lookout,
MD*<http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/southern/pointlookout.html>on
Saturday, October 27th.
Point Lookout is a narrow peninsula between the Chesapeake Bay and
Potomac, just north of where the two bodies of water come together. This
should be a good time for fall migrants and a good spot for them to gather
before heading across the Bay. We can expect to see several species of
migratory hawks, which follow the western shore of the Chesapeake on their
way south, as well as many songbirds. Participants should prepare for
colder, windier weather than in DC, so dress in layers and bring a cap.
Drivers should be sure to bring a good Maryland road map. The address of the
park is: 11175 Point Lookout Road, Scotland, MD, 20687
Meet at our Eastern Market location (in front of Bread and Chocolate) for
carpooling at 7am, or meet us in the parking lot at Point Lookout at 9am. We
anticipate returning to DC around 4pm. Please RSVP to trip leader, Tom, at
202-462-1821 -- especially if you need a ride but also to give us an idea of
how many people to expect.
Directions to Point Lookout: Take Beltway Exit 7 Branch Ave., Rt.5. Follow
Rt. 5 to Pt. Lookout; signs for it will begin around St. Marys. There are
two left turns followed by a right turn none of which are well marked. The
drive is about two hours. You also can consult *www.dcaudubon.org*, or
mapquest, for more detailed directions. However, we will arrange rides and
travel together in as few cars as possible from Bread and Chocolate.
We look forward to seeing you on the 27th!
