October 14, 2005 Field Trip to Point Lookout State
Park (St. Mary's County, Maryland)

DC Audubon will take a trip to Pt. Lookout, MD on
Saturday, October 14, 2005.   **Please RSVP to trip
leader Jesse Buff at (301) 270-0680 (home number) or
email him at <jesse21044 at yahoo.com>.  Please also
include your phone number so we can reach you if there
is a change of plans**  

This should be a good time to spot fall migrants as
well as resident Chesapeake Bay species such as Bald
Eagle and Osprey.  Pt. Lookout is a good spot for
migrants to gather before heading across the Potomac
River and Chesapeake Bay.  Participants should expect
cooler, windier weather than in D.C., so dress in
layers and bring a cap.  Drivers should be sure to
bring a good Maryland road map.   

We will carpool from the Bread and Chocolate café at
Eastern Market (corner of 7th St. and Pennsylvania
Ave., Southeast), but the number of cars is limited. 
**If you can use your car to carpool, please let Jesse
know.**  We will leave at 7:00 A.M. from the Bread and
Chocolate location and should be at Pt. Lookout by 9
A.M.  For those who want to meet us at Pt. Lookout, we
will all meet at parking lot closest to
the main restrooms (at the tip of the peninsula).

Directions and other info:

Directions from Washington, D.C.:  
Take Pennsylvania Ave. East from Bread and Chocolate
(Penn. Ave will become Rt. 4) towards Beltway/Rt. 495.
 Follow Rt. 4/Pennsylvania Avenue South to Upper
Marlboro.  Continue on Rt. 4 South until you cross the
Solomons Island Bridge.  After the Solomons Island
Bridge the first traffic light you come to will be Rt.
235.  Turn left onto Rt. 235 South. Follow Rt. 235
South into a town called Ridge (there will be a
blinking red light).  Turn left onto Rt. 5 South. 
Follow Rt. 5 South as far as it will go (approximately
7 miles) and you will be in Point Lookout. 

Directions from Baltimore:  From Rt. 695 follow to Rt.
97 South to Rt. 3 South (Rt. 3 will turn into Rt.
301). Follow Rt. 301 South.  From Rt. 301 South
continue to Rt. 4 South in Upper Marlboro.  Follow Rt.
4 South all the way across the Solomons Island Bridge.
After the Solomons Island Bridge the first traffic
light you come to will be Rt. 235.  Turn left onto Rt.
235 South.  Follow Rt. 235 South into a town called
Ridge (there will be a blinking red light). Turn left
onto Rt. 5 South.  Follow Rt. 5 South as far as it
will go (approximately 7 miles) and you will be in
Point Lookout. 

Directions from the Rt. 301 Bridge:  Follow Rt. 301
North to Rt. 234 towards Leonardtown.  When you reach
the end of Rt. 234 at Rt. 5 turn right.  Follow Rt. 5
South to Point Lookout.
